We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Brian Thomas
Brian, a founding member and dedicated player of our club, passed away on 23 July at the age of 88.
A true pillar of the club, Brian served on the first committee, held the presidency from 1985 to 1988, and generously donated the Grindon Trophy. He remained active until very recently, enjoying a game with an impressive 61% score alongside Alan French on 2 July.
Brian's achievements at the club were remarkable. He dominated most club trophies, particularly the Royal Bank of Scotland Cup, winning it an astonishing eighteen times. His strongest partnership was undoubtedly with Robin Pearson. After Robin's passing, Brian continued his winning ways, teaming up with George Martin. Though George's off-piste style sometimes led to unexpected results, much to Brian's chagrin, their shared passion for winning proved unstoppable.
Our deepest condolences go out to Brian's family and friends, especially his regular Thursday lunchtime ‘fixers of the world’, Colin Edney and Alan French.
We will share funeral details as soon as they become available.
